Breastfeeding is a beautiful way to bond with your baby and has countless benefits for both.

If provided with the appropriate assistance and guidance, the vast majority of mums can have a long and happy breastfeeding journey with their baby.

A Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) could be an invaluable help when things are going less well.

Lactation Consultation: Suitable for mums that are not sure what the issues are and need an in-depth assessment and close guidance. A typical consultation will involve a thorough medical history collection, an examination of the breasts, examination of the infant’s oral cavity, and observation of a feed. After a comprehensive assessment the issues will be identified and a management plan will be designed, adapted to your individual situation and aimed at achieving your breastfeeding goals.  The follow-up of the implementation of the management plan with be done over the phone or email. Support included up to 2 weeks after the appointment.

Mini Lactation Consultation: Suitable for mums that are confident with breastfeeding but need guidance in a particular aspect such as pumping, returning to work while breastfeeding, or anything else. During this appointment a management plan will be designed, adapted to your individual situation and aimed at achieving your breastfeeding goals.  The follow-up of the implementation of the management plan with be done over the phone or email. Support included up to 2 weeks after the appointment.

This is not an extensive list and an IBCLC can help you with many other issues that may arise before, during and after your breastfeeding journey.

The Lactation consults can be done in the client’s home (depending on location), in assessment room in Kilkenny city or by video call.

The costs of the consultation can be totally or partially covered by private health insurance. It’s advisable to confirm coverage with your insurance provider before booking your appointment.
